A. Martini & Co. provides construction management, general contracting and design-build services for new construction and renovation projects.
The History of A. Martini & Co.
In 1942, Antonio Martini started a small contracting company in Pittsburgh, PA. Antonio, who had arrived in the United States in 1927, wanted to build a business of which he could be proud and that could support his growing family.
As opportunities became more plentiful and Antionio's reputation grew he desided to join in a partnership with his friend Gilbert Auel. In 1951, they started A. Martini & Co. — a General Contracting firm. His projects included shopping plazas, grocery stores, post offices, churches and banks.
A. Martini & Co. was a family business from the beginning. Daughter Clementine Pittore worked as the company's secretary. And in 1959 Angelo Martini Sr., Antonio's only son, joined the business as a field superintendent.
"There is a saying, 'Learn by example,'" Angelo Sr. said. "That is what I did — I watched and learned from my father. When he gave his word, he meant it. When he made a mistake, he was honest about it. When he agreed to build something, the client knew the craftsmanship would be excellent."
In 1968, Antonio retired, and Angelo Sr. and his sister Clementine assumed management of the construction firm. Their objectives were to continue to grow the business and expand its services. In the 1980s, Angelo Sr.'s two sons — Anthony and Angelo Jr. — also joined the company.
Today, A. Martini & Co. is a recognized regional Construction Manager And General Contractor providing both pre-construction and construction services. The company complements the traditions of its past with the technologies of the present. Their team uses state-of-the-art computer hardware and software systems to manage projects. They also offer clients different types of building delivery methods — including the Design-Build alternative.
"This business is personal for me since our company embodies the dedication, work ethic and talent of three generations of my family," said Anthony F. Martini. "As President, it's my responsibility to continue the tradition of providing our clients with personal attention, quality craftsmanship and exemplary project management."
